Comparing the eyebox of XReal devices
Changes in eyebox size among xReal AR glasses models.
With the release of the Xreal Air 2 Ultra, one common question is about the size of the eyebox in relation to the Air 2 Pro. Lets take a look.
First the TLDR numbers:
(mm) | nReal Air | xReal Air 2 Pro | xReal Air 2 Ultra |
---|---|---|---|
Width | 37.4 | 34.4 | 37.4 |
Height | 22.0 | 19.0 | 22.0 |
Bridge | 31.5 | 31.5 | 31.5 |
Depth | 15.5 | 13.0 | 16.0 |
Thickness | 20.9 | 19.0 | 20.9 |
The short answer is that is looks like xReal knows they screwed the pooch with the Air 2 and Air 2 Pro and have returned to a much larger eyebox.
The only dimension that remains the same is the bridge distance. The Ultra optical assembly dimensions are nearly identical to the original nReal Air.
xReal specifically calls out the change in panel size here:
Air 2 Ultra | Air 2 Pro | Air 2 | Air |
---|---|---|---|
0.70 Sony Micro-OLED ?? | 0.55 Sony Micro-OLED | 0.55 Sony Micro-OLED | 0.68 Sony Micro-OLED |
And given that the latest 1080p Micro-OLED panel from Sony is a new 0.70 size panel, it would make sense that this is what is in the Ultra, meaning a nearly identical eyebox to go along with it.
